Interesting Factlet

In Azerbaijan, if your birthday it falls on a workday, you're responsible for buying the cake for the office celebration.

This is a really hard concept for us westerners to get our heads around.

Really? In the UK it's standard practice to the person whose birthday it is to buy cakes for everyone else in the office.

I always wondered if the tradition came somehow from Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, where Bilbo Baggins buys everyone else presents on his eleventy-first birthday, but maybe Tolkein picked up the tradition from other cultures...?
