Interesting Factlet

In Azerbaijan, if your birthday it falls on a workday, you're responsible for buying the cake for the office celebration.

This is a really hard concept for us westerners to get our heads around.

Just out of curiosity, could you mention a little more about what you actually do - or what your organization does? I'm just always interested in hearing about the work that brings expats so far from home.

Really? In the UK it's standard practice to the person whose birthday it is to buy cakes for everyone else in the office.

I always wondered if the tradition came somehow from Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, where Bilbo Baggins buys everyone else presents on his eleventy-first birthday, but maybe Tolkein picked up the tradition from other cultures...?
